To the surprise of sweetener-free fans across the UK last year, Coca-Cola re-introduced a lemon flavoured version of “original taste” coke to the market. The flavour made a brief appearance in 2005 before being discontinued the following year. Whilst the introduction of a new flavour in 2024 isn’t something unexpected, the fact that Coca-Cola had decided to release a sweetener-free version (alongside the now common “zero” style) certainly is. This meant there were now three versions of sweetener-free coke on supermarket shelves: original, cherry and lemon.
Fast-forward to this year, and it seems like the success of their lemon release had made them hungry (or thirsty) for more. In the last few weeks, Coca-Cola has announced a lime version of original taste coke will soon become available. Some fans have managed to grab it already but it isn’t commonly yet – just keep an eye out whilst you’re walking down the soft drinks aisle.
With two new flavours recently added to the coke family, we ask what is next? Will we see the return of sweetener-free vanilla? It’s a fan favourite we’ve seen before with a zero-sugar version already on the shelves. Or will Coca-Cola decide to pull another fruity flavour out of the vault such as orange or raspberry?
