One of the big outcomes from the sugar-tax was the reformulation of some of our favourite recipes. Lucozade, as an example, was hit hard and every flavour became an imitation of what was once the go-to drink for when you are feeling not quite 100%. However, all is not lost and thanks to Todd’s, there’s is a bright orange light at the end of the tunnel that leads to those forgotten flavours.
Todd’s believe “people deserve a sugary drink as a treat, without having to contend with artificial sweeteners.” and have produced three flavours of sparkling glucose energy drinks: Original, Orange and Lemon.
Todd’s Original Energy
Sparkling original glucose energy drink. Is this the closest you’ll get to Luzocade Original? Probably.
Ingredients: carbonated water, glucose syrup (25%), citric acid, lactic acid, natural flavouring, preservatives (potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate), caffeine, antioxidant (ascorbic acid), natural colouring (bright orange ws).
It’s available directly from Todd’s website in 330ml cans as a 12 or 24 pack. Be warned, it sells out quite often!
Todd’s Orange Energy
Sparkling orange glucose energy drink. Whilst maybe not as popular as the original, Orange Lucozade was still at the forefront of corner shops and supermarket shelves. Todd’s have also brought an orange version out to bring back those retro (it hasn’t been that long) fruity glucose flavours.
Ingredients: carbonated water, glucose syrup (22%), citric acid, orange juice from concentrate (5%), natural flavouring, preservatives (potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate), caffeine, antioxidant (ascorbic acid), natural colouring (beta carotene).
Like the original, it’s available directly from Todd’s in 330ml cans as a 12 or 24 pack.
Todd’s Lemon Energy
Sparkling lemon glucose energy drink. If original and orange weren’t enough, Todd’s has more recently brought out a Lemon version of its energy drink. Lemon Lucozade had a cult-following with dedicated fans trying to bring it back when it first disappeared. Now that’s sadly gone again, we’re grateful Todd’s have decided to bring this out 10 years later with no added sweeteners.
